Our New Page: “Lit’erally Series”
We’re happy to announce the beginning of a new series on our website: a page called “Lit’erally Series.” Laura Albert will be speaking with an international range of activist creators, and sharing excerpts of their conversations as videos; each new video will be accompanied by an introduction written by Laura.
The first talk to be featured is with author Sheila Heti, whose acclaimed works include Motherhood, How Should a Person Be?, and her new novel, Pure Colour. We’re entitling this talk “Beauty and Valor” — click HERE and find out why!
We’ll have updates for this series soon, so just keep checking in! Until then, here’s a snippet from this first conversation:

Laura Albert & Jaime Wyatt On Getting Through The Holidays
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Jaime Wyatt got together with Laura for this heart-to-heart video talk about getting through the holidays sober, abstinent, and clean. The honesty they share helps in getting through the rest of the year too…
Laura Interviews Winsome Brown!
You all know Winsome Brown not just as the Obie-award-winning stage actor, the powerhouse performer in such series as Supergirl, Elementary, Heights, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and notable films like Paul Greengrass’s News of the World with Tom Hanks, but also for her extraordinary work reading the novel SARAH for its audiobook release as well as “Baby Doll” in the audiobook of The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things. But she is also featured in the new dramatic mini-series Dopesick on Hulu, playing Theresa Sackler, corporate profiteer from the drug OxyContin. For Diane Pernet’s A Shaded View on Fashion, Winsome and Laura got together to record an extended video interview, discussing Dopesick, other manifestations of addiction, and a lot more! And you can see it right HERE!

A Message of Love
Now that the holidays are upon us, and a new year is about to begin, we wanted to share this video with you. In the face of pandemic and loss, this brief moment from a recent Zoom gathering reminds us all once again of the healing power of shared artistic expression – and of what Dante called “the Love that moves the Sun and the other stars.”
Irvine Welsh and the Artist’s Right to Offend
The celebrated Scottish author Irvine Welsh, whose novels include Trainspotting and Porno, has launched Offended by Irvine Welsh, a new series on Sky Arts, which explores the artist’s capacity to offend – and the different forms of blowback from the offended. Speaking to Daisy Buchanan on the You’re Booked podcast, Welsh responded to a question about JT LeRoy with an eloquent defense of the right of artists to create in the ways they see fit.
